Kelly oversees multiple collections sites for University Collections, including the Collections, Teaching, Research and Exhibition Center (CTREC) at the historic McCalla School, the ALF-3 facility, and storage at the University Collections warehouses. Kelly also assists University Collections in its larger mission of stewarding collections materials system-wide by advising collections on all campuses in facilities-related issues. Previous to joining University Collections, Kelly served as the Facilities Manager for the Mathers Museum of World Cultures and Glenn Black Laboratory of Archaeology for 17 years, where he led visitor services; oversaw facilities operations; coordinated health, safety, and emergency management for the institutions; and managed the museum store. He also was instrumental in coordinating moves and renovation planning for the new Indiana University Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology (IUMAA), which brings together the Mathers and Glenn Black Lab into one institution.
